You're probably here because something isn't working. Maybe it's sleep, or a habit you keep promising yourself you'll break, or that background hum of anxiety that makes everything feel harder than it should. You've tried other things. Now you're wondering: could hypnotherapy actually help? And if so, how do you find someone who isn't weird about it?

I'm going to tell you what to look for—and be honest about where I fit in that picture.

Why I do this work

I won't pretend my story is dramatic. But I'd spent years feeling like I was running slightly out of sync with myself—overthinking, second-guessing, stuck in patterns I could see clearly but couldn't seem to change.

I'd tried the usual routes. Some helped. Most didn't stick.

When I finally tried hypnotherapy, what surprised me wasn't some mystical experience. It was how practical it felt. Like finally finding the settings menu for things I'd assumed were hardwired.

That's what drew me to train. Not because hypnotherapy is magic—it isn't—but because it works in a different way than most things. And for certain problems, that different way is exactly what's needed.

What hypnotherapy actually is

You know that loose, drifty feeling right before you fall asleep? When your mind isn't quite defending itself yet? That's roughly where hypnotherapy works.

In that state, the patterns that usually run on autopilot—the anxiety loops, the cravings, the stories you tell yourself—become surprisingly easy to interrupt. Not through willpower. Through something more like rearranging the furniture in a room you couldn't see clearly before.

You're not unconscious. You're not out of control. You're just... open. And in that openness, things shift.

What qualifications actually matter

Look for someone registered with a professional body—NCH, CNHC, or similar. This isn't a guarantee of skill, but it means they've completed recognized training and carry insurance.

Beyond that, specific training matters more than generic credentials. Ask what approach they use and whether they have experience with your particular issue. A hypnotherapist who's brilliant with smoking cessation might have little experience with trauma, and vice versa.

I trained with the Quest Institute under Trevor Silvester, one of the most respected figures in cognitive hypnotherapy. I'm NCH registered and fully insured.

Red flags to watch for

Be wary of anyone who:

  • Guarantees results in a specific number of sessions
  • Won't do a free intro call
  • Can't clearly explain how they work
  • Makes it sound like magic or mind control

Hypnotherapy is effective, but it's not a trick. Anyone selling it as such is selling something else.

The thing that actually matters most

Here's what the research consistently shows: the quality of the therapeutic relationship predicts results better than the specific technique used.

Which means the right question isn't "who's the best hypnotherapist?" but "who do I actually want to talk to about this?"

That's why intro calls exist. Not to sell you—to see if there's a fit. I learn a lot in 30 minutes. So do you.

Why work with me?

I work primarily with creators, founders, and high-performers—people I think of as mental athletes. If you've got what I call a "Ferrari imagination," you know it can be both a gift and a curse. The same mind that generates brilliant ideas can also generate anxiety, overthinking, and patterns that keep you stuck.

I get that. I've lived it.

My approach is built around one core belief: people aren't broken, they're unconfigured. You don't need fixing. You need better arrangements—a different relationship with your own patterns.

  • Experience and training: Cognitive hypnotherapy certification from the Quest Institute, NCH registered, four years in practice.
  • A tailored approach: No scripts. Everything is built around you, your patterns, and what you're actually trying to change.
  • A judgment-free space: Whatever you're dealing with, I've probably heard something similar. And if I haven't, I'm not going to make it weird.

What actually happens in our sessions

The discovery session: We talk. I ask questions—not to diagnose you, but to understand how your problem actually works. What triggers it? What makes it worse? What would "better" actually look like? By the end, we'll have mapped out your ideal solution state and I'll know what approach makes sense.

The intervention session: This is where we do the actual hypnotherapy work. I'll guide you into that focused, open state and use specific techniques tailored to your situation. Some people find it deeply relaxing. Others describe it as surprisingly active—like a conversation with a part of themselves they don't usually access. You're aware the whole time. You'll remember everything.

Your personalised recording: After our session, I create a custom self-hypnosis recording for you—what I call a WordWeave. It's not generic relaxation audio. It's built specifically around you, using the language and imagery that emerged in our work together. You use it between sessions to reinforce the changes. Most clients find this is where a lot of the deeper integration happens.

Common questions, answered honestly

What clients say

I went to Richard because he gets creative agencies, strategists and, above all, is a highly empathetic human. Using some quite fantastic visualisation, hypnotic and conversation techniques, I've let go of a lot of limiting beliefs that held me back from childhood around self-confidence, self-expression and feelings of shame.
Senior Strategist
I had tried other forms of therapy, but they were not effective in my case. With Richard's support, I gained confidence and reprogrammed my mind to live more authentically. He's been a ray of hope and support, empowering me to become more confident and resilient.
Client overcoming PTSD and imposter syndrome
Rich has a very pragmatic and logical approach to this work, and despite me being quite new to hypnosis, and having a fair amount of resistance to begin with, I felt completely safe and at ease throughout our sessions together.
Events Producer
The work we do together has enriched the way I approach situations, deal with difficult times as well as appreciating all the great times. I have a personal arsenal of techniques and exercises that are not 'therapy' but life tools.
