You're Not Broken.

Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.

Collaborative Therapy for Self-Empowerment

In the world of therapy, there's a powerful belief that I stand by: "My aim is not to fix you, because you're not broken". This statement isn't just a lofty ideal; it's at the core of how cognitive hypnotherapists approach mental wellness.

To the uninitiated, this idea might seem contradictory. Isn't therapy supposed to 'fix' people, to rectify what's 'wrong' with them? The short answer is no. True therapy goes beyond mere 'fixing'; it's a journey towards understanding, acceptance, and ultimately, self-empowerment.

“Therapy isn’t about fixing what’s broken, it’s about discovering the strength that was always there, waiting to emerge.”
— Richard Buchanan

The concept of being 'broken' suggests that there is a 'normal' state we need to return to. It implies that anything deviating from this norm is a malfunction, a failure. But humans aren't machines that can break down or need fixing. We are complex, dynamic beings with unique experiences, thoughts, and feelings.

In my practice, I see you not as a set of problems to be solved but as an individual with an inherent capacity for growth and change. I believe that every person already has all the resources they need to make progress and cultivate their well-being.

Instead of attempting to 'fix' you, my role is to support you in recognising, accessing, and utilising these internal resources. Through our collaborative work, we explore your experiences and perspectives, challenge unhelpful patterns of thinking, and develop new, empowering ways of relating to yourself and the world around you.

This approach acknowledges that there are times when life can be overwhelming, and feelings of distress are valid responses to these experiences. The goal isn't to erase these feelings but to navigate through them, using them as catalysts for growth.

In acknowledging that you're not broken, we recognise your strength, resilience, and potential for change. We emphasise empowerment over cure, growth over repair. This shift in perspective can be liberating, helping you to see that you are more than the sum of your struggles.

“You’re not a problem to be fixed, but a person to be understood. Your power lies not in changing who you are, but in discovering who you can be.”
— Richard Buchanan

Remember, therapy isn't about fixing you, because you're not broken. Instead, it's about joining you on your journey towards better understanding yourself, fostering acceptance, and harnessing your inner resources for growth and well-being. And I am here, ready to walk that journey with you.
